Eleven candidates are running in the top-two primary in California’s 20th Congressional District

The top-two primary for California’s 20th Congressional District is set for March 5. Three candidates lead in media attention: Mike Boudreaux (R), Vince Fong (R), and David Giglio (R).

The primary is taking place following former Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R) resignation in December 2023.

845 candidates answered Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey in 2023

Since 2018, Ballotpedia has invited candidates to take part in our Candidate Connection initiative. We survey candidates at the federal, state, and local levels to help voters choose representatives who reflect their values and uphold their ideals.

A total of 845 candidates responded to the survey in 2023.

One hundred eleven candidates were part of our effort to gather responses from local candidates beyond our core coverage scope

The remaining 734 candidates represent 12.7% of the 5,782 candidates we covered in 2023.

Fifty-five statewide measures certified for the ballot in 25 states in 2024

So far, 55 statewide ballot measures have been certified for the ballot in 25 states—one less than the average (56) for this point in election cycles from 2012 to 2022. An average of 157 were certified in even-numbered years in that period.

The next signature deadline is Jan. 29, in Maine, where signatures could be filed for an initiative related to campaign contribution limits. At least 67,682 valid signatures must be filed.
