Three candidates are running for North Dakota’s At-Large Congressional District — tying with 2020 for the second-fewest since 2014

This year’s filing deadline for candidates running for the U.S. House of Representatives in North Dakota was April 6, 2026.

Three candidates — one Democrat and two Republicans — are running for North Dakota’s At-Large Congressional District. Seven candidates ran for the district in 2024, two ran in 2022, three ran in 2020, five ran in 2018, two ran in 2016, and two ran in 2014.

Incumbent Rep. Julie Fedorchak (R) is among the three candidates running for the district. Since 2014, the district has been open twice — in 2024 and 2018.

The Republican primary is contested this year. In total, there were two contested primaries in 2024, none in 2022, one in 2020, one in 2018, none in 2016, and none in 2014.

Fedorchak and one other candidate are running in the contested primary. This year marks the first time an incumbent faced a primary challenger in the district since 2014.

Candidates filed to run in the Republican and Democratic primaries, meaning the district is not guaranteed to either party.

North Dakota and three other states — Maine, Nevada, and South Carolina — are holding U.S. House primaries on June 9, 2026.

In North Dakota, the winner of a primary election is the candidate who receives the greatest number of votes, even if they do not win an outright majority of votes cast.
