This year’s filing deadline for candidates running for the U.S. House of Representatives in Connecticut was June 9, 2026.

This year has the highest number of candidates since 2014. Fifteen candidates — eight Democrats and seven Republicans — are running for Connecticut’s five congressional districts. That’s three candidates per district. There were 2.2 candidates per district in 2024, 2.2 in 2022, 2.6 in 2020, 2.6 in 2018, 2.4 in 2016, and two in 2014.

Among those candidates are all five incumbents, meaning no districts are open this year. In 2018, there was one open district — the only year since 2014 in which a district was open.

One of those five incumbents is Rep. John Larson (D-1st), who is the only one running in a contested primary this year. Larson is the first incumbent since 2014 to run in a contested primary.

The 1st Congressional District has attracted the most candidates. The candidates running for the district include Larson, three other Democrats, and one Republican.

In total, three primaries — one Democratic and three Republican — are contested this year. In total, there was one contested primary in 2024, one in 2022, two in 2020, two in 2018, none in 2016, and none in 2014.

Candidates filed to run in the Republican and Democratic primaries in all five districts, meaning no districts are guaranteed to either party.

Connecticut and four other states — Alabama, Minnesota, Vermont, and Wisconsin — are holding U.S. House primaries on Aug. 11, 2026.

In Connecticut, primary winners are determined via plurality vote, meaning that the candidate with the greatest number of votes wins the election even if they did not win an outright majority of votes cast.
