Four candidates are running for Delaware's At-Large Congressional District this year — the third-most since 2014

This year's filing deadline for candidates running for the U.S. House of Representatives in Delaware was July 14, 2026.

Four candidates — one Democrat and three Republicans — are running for Delaware's At-Large Congressional District. Five candidates ran in 2024, two in 2022, three in 2020, three in 2018, seven in 2016, and two in 2014.

Incumbent Rep. Sarah McBride (D) is running for re-election, meaning the district is not open. Since 2014, there have been two years in which the district was open: 2024 and 2016.

McBride is not running in a contested primary this year. An incumbent has not run in a contested primary since 2014.

As a result, the Republican primary is the only contested primary this year. In total, there were two contested primaries in 2024, none in 2022, one in 2020, one in 2018, one in 2016, and none in 2014.

Candidates filed to run in the Republican and Democratic primaries, meaning the district is not guaranteed to either party.

Delaware is holding U.S. House primaries on Sept. 15, 2026.

In Delaware, the winner of a primary election is the candidate who receives the greatest number of votes, even if they do not win an outright majority of votes cast.
