This year's filing deadline for candidates running for the U.S. House of Representatives in Rhode Island was June 24, 2026.

The number of candidates running for Rhode Island's two congressional districts this year ties with 2020 for the second-fewest since 2014. Five candidates — two Democrats and three Republicans — are running for the districts. That's 2.5 candidates per district. There were two candidates per district in 2024, four in 2022, 2.5 in 2020, three in 2018, 3.5 in 2016, and three in 2014.

Among those candidates are both incumbents — Reps. Gabe Amo (D) and Seth Magaziner (D). As a result, neither district is open this year. From 2014 to 2024, there was only one open district, which happened in 2022.

Neither incumbent is running in a contested primary this year. There were no incumbents in contested primaries in 2024, none in 2022, one in 2020, one in 2018, two in 2016, and one in 2014.

In total, one Republican primary is contested this year. In total, there were no contested primaries in 2024, one in 2022, two in 2020, two in 2018, two in 2016, and two in 2014.

The 2nd Congressional District has attracted the most candidates. Three candidates — Magaziner and two Republicans — are running for the district.
