Nicole Cannizzaro (D) defeated Adriana Guzmán Fralick (R) in the general election for attorney general of Nevada on November 3, 2026. Incumbent Aaron Ford (D) was term-limited and ran for governor of Nevada.
A major theme heading into the election was the frequency with which the attorney general sues the federal government. The Nevada Independent's Eric Neugeboren wrote, "But with two years left in Trump's second term, the next attorney general will face a key question: Keep up the deluge of lawsuits against the federal administration or scale them back? ... Cannizzaro said she would 'absolutely' sue the administration, while Guzmán Fralick said that 'some were necessary and I'm behind all that, but the majority of them, I think, were just politically driven.'"
In August 2026, Sabato's Crystal Ball's Louis Jacobson shifted his rating of the office from Toss-up to Leans Democratic, writing, "State Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro won the Democratic primary with surprising ease, giving her momentum heading into the general election against Adriana Guzmán Fralick, a low-profile ally of Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo. Fralick has a good reputation but will need Lombardo’s help to raise money and stay competitive with Cannizzaro."
This election, along with the elections for governor and secretary of state, determined Nevada's triplex status. Heading into the 2026 election, neither party had a triplex in Nevada. The governor was a Republican, while the attorney general and secretary of state were Democrats. Because Democrats won all three elections for triplex office in 2026, they gained a triplex in Nevada. If Guzmán Fralick had won the general election, Democrats would not have gained a triplex in Nevada.
Cannizzaro represented the 6th District in the Nevada Senate since 2016. She served as the Senate majority leader since March 2019. Before entering politics, Cannizzaro was a prosecutor in the Clark County District Attorney's Office. Cannizzaro said, "When Trump sent thugs to torment our communities, I wrote the law to ban ICE from targeting our schools. Now, he's attacking our elections. So, I'm leading the charge to protect your voting rights. I'm running for attorney general to stand up to Trump, defend our democracy, and make Nevada safer and stronger."
Guzmán Fralick was an attorney and counselor at law. She served as legal counsel to the Nevada Commission on Ethics, as general counsel to former Gov. Jim Gibbons (R), as assistant general counsel to the Nevada Public Utilities Commission, and chaired the Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board. Guzmán Fralick said she supported a closed border with Mexico, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, election security and voter ID laws, government transparency, and addressing public safety issues such as child abuse, domestic violence, and drug-related crimes.
This was one of 30 attorney general elections taking place in 2026. Heading into the election, Democrats held 16 of 30 attorney general offices up for election, while Republicans held 14. Forty-three of 50 states hold elections for attorney general.
