All four candidates running in the March 19, 2024, Democratic primary for Ohio’s 10th Congressional District completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office. The candidates are Amy Cox (D), David Esrati (D), Joseph Kuzniar (D), and Tony Pombo (D).
Here are the candidates’ responses to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Cox:
“In addition to healthcare and living wage jobs, I’m very passionate about labor protections and making sure that workers are represented either in unions or on corporate boards. I’m passionate about ensuring sustainable environmental protections. We must push for reform so that the justice system doesn’t serve as a way to keep low income and minority populations in a vicious cycle of fees and mass incarceration. Additionally, Ohio just passed two constitutional amendments protecting abortion and recreational marijuana, and it’s long overdue that those issues are protected nationwide.”
Esrati:
“We need absolute transparency in all levels of government. …
Same goes for paying taxes. … the system is too complicated and convoluted. …
… we need to figure out what being an American means?
I believe in a mandatory year of public service for all upon graduating high school (and everyone needs to do that). …
Then- in exchange, your career training is paid for. …
It’s time to stop doing ‘economic development’ where poor people subsidize rich companies. We also need to rethink the way we are tracked and monetized online. You should get a cut of the ad dollars spent to sell you.”
Kuzniar:
“Very concerned about the continuing deteriorating conditions at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (W-PAFB), OH…reduced workforce, vacant facilities, activities, and gate closures since at least 2010.
Ohio has approximately 160,000 veterans…over half are from the Vietnam War Era. There is a great need for Assisted Living Facilities for these veterans. Also, more help is needed for our homeless population.
Don’t mess with Social Security. Many folks approaching retirement have little savings and Social Security is the only safety net they have.”
Pombo:
“Working for the people and reviving the American Dream! Restoring the standard of living that has declined since the 1970s.
People should not have to work several full-time jobs just to survive. Making sure minimum wage keeps up with inflation might be enough.
Lowering health care and college costs; preserving Social Security; supporting military veterans; balancing the federal budget; safeguarding our borders.”
