In February 2026, Ballotpedia is covering one key battleground race: the special Democratic primary for New Jersey's 11th Congressional District. The previous incumbent, Mikie Sherrill (D), resigned on Nov. 20, 2025, after she was elected governor of New Jersey.
Eleven candidates are running in the race. The following five candidates have received the most endorsements and media attention. Each entry lists the candidate’s current or most recent position and notable endorsements.

- Brendan Gill: Essex County Commissioner
- Endorsements: Former Gov. Phil Murphy (D); Essex County Democratic Committee

The winner of the special Democratic primary will face Joe Hathaway, the only Republican candidate, in the special general election on April 16. The winner of the general election will serve the remainder of Sherrill's term.
New Jersey will hold primaries for all 12 of its U.S. House seats on June 2. The 2026 general election will take place on November 3.
