Over the past two weeks, four new ballot measures certified in Alaska, Georgia, and New Hampshire

As of March 31, 84 statewide measures have been certified for the ballot in 33 states, six more measures than the average number certified at this point in other even-numbered years over the past decade (2014 to 2024).

Here’s an update on the latest ballot measure activity during the past two weeks:

The last signature deadline for ballot initiatives was Feb. 15, 2026, in Utah. Signatures were submitted for the Utah Eliminate the Independent Redistricting Commission Initiative.

  • Supporters reported submitting more than 200,000 signatures. At least 140,748 need to be verified. As of March 30, officials reported 162,886 valid signatures, which exceeded the statewide minimum.
  • However, Utah also has a signature distribution requirement. Signatures must equal 8% of active voters in at least 26 of the state’s 29 Senate districts. Although the initiative initially met this distribution requirement, Utah law allows signers to withdraw their signatures. After withdrawals, the measure no longer met the distribution requirement in 26 districts, and the initiative failed to qualify for the ballot.

The next signature deadline is May 1 in Idaho, where initiatives related to the sales tax, abortion, medical marijuana, and recreational marijuana have been approved for signature gathering.

By this time during even-numbered years from 2014 through 2024, an average of 79 statewide measures had been certified for the ballot. During this period, the average total number of statewide ballot measures certified in an even-numbered year was 153.
