President Donald Trump (R) has removed Pam Bondi (R) as United States Attorney General

President Donald Trump (R) has removed Pam Bondi (R) as United States Attorney General. In a statement on Truth Social, Trump wrote, "Pam did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country... she will be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future.” Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche is serving as acting attorney general.

Trump nominated Bondi for attorney general on November 21, 2024, after his first nominee, Matt Gaetz (R), withdrew from consideration that same day. The United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary held hearings for Bondi on January 15-16, 2025, and the full Senate voted to confirm her on February 4, 2025, by a vote of 54-46. Every Republican senator voted for her, and all but one Democrat, Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), voted against her nomination. Bondi’s tenure as attorney general was the shortest of any Senate-confirmed nominee since William Saxbe (R), who served from 1974 to 1975.

Bondi is the second cabinet official to leave their position this year. In March, Trump replaced Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem (R) with Markwayne Mullin (R). Prior to that, Michael Waltz (R) was replaced as National Security Advisor to become the United Nations Ambassador.
