Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey: Texas roundup


Texas is holding elections, including for boards of trustees, on May 6, 2023. A number of candidates running in these elections completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.

Below is a selection of responses from the candidates who filled out the survey as of April 9. To read each candidate’s full responses, click their name at the bottom of the article.

David Adams (nonpartisan) is running for El Paso Independent School District Board of Trustees District 6 and the general election is on May 6. Here’s how Adams responded to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

“I love helping children enjoy being on this earth. Now that I’m a grandparent I understand even more that they are the number one priority because they are our future. So child welfare is very important to me. I also believe that we need to give them every opportunity and resource we can give them.”

Larry Dale Carpenter Jr. (nonpartisan) is running for Tarrant County College District Board of Trustees District 4 and the general election is on May 6. Here’s how Carpenter responded to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

“1) Protecting the tax payer against abusive policies.

2) Abolish the equity and diversity board.

3) Work for the tax payer, not administration.”
