All candidates for Texas House of Representatives District 5 Republican primary complete Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey

All three candidates running in the March 5, 2024, Republican primary for Texas House of Representatives District 5 — Incumbent Cole Hefner (R), Dewey Collier (R), and Jeff Fletcher (R) — completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.

Here are the candidates’ responses to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Hefner:

“The protection of life, especially unborn life, is the primary issue that got me involved in government and politics. I remain passionate about this area of public policy. Additionally, eliminating burdensome regulations and lowering taxes remains a policy priority for me.”

Collier:

“Freezing the budget and reducing spending and the shrinking the government.

Protecting children from all manner of threats (border security, indoctrination at school, gender fiction, etc.) they face in our current society.

Passing effective, whole, GOP priority legislation every session.”

Fletcher:

“Parents should have the freedom to parent their children without government interference. Boys are boys and girls are girls, period. Obscene or pornographic books should never be allowed in schools. I am wholly supportive of vaccine choice for everyone but especially children. I’m saddened and disgusted by the overwhelming influence lobbyists have on our government at the state and federal level. …”
