All candidates for Illinois House of Representatives District 49 Republican primary complete Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey

Both of the candidates running in the March 19, 2024, Republican primary for Illinois House of Representatives District 49 — Hannah Billingsley (R) and Aris Garcia (R) — completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.

Here are the candidates’ responses to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Billingsley:

“Because my background is in business and because I’m a pragmatic dreamer (I realize that dreams cost real dollars), I am passionate about balanced budgets and bringing transparency to our spending. All people, but especially leadership, should be held accountable. The designation of every dollar should be transparent. ‘Sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants; electric light the most efficient policeman.’ – Louis Brandeis. We need leaders who are going to think beyond their net worth and network and have a conviction that the next generation must be set up for success, with ample margin to chase their dreams.”

Garcia:

“I Stand with Parents against corrupt Teachers Union Bosses: Current Officials have failed our education system. …

Wasteful spending erodes the services our communities need most:I will tirelessly advocate for responsible spending within our state government, holding officials accountable for fiscal discipline and transparency. …

With my Experience working in the Cook County Treasure’s Department, we will beat the government in their own game: My Office will commission a local property tax task force which will actively seek out Taxpayers with refunds available and instruct them on the paperwork that must be submitted to secure their money. …

We pay more and make less to fund Union Bosses and Special interests: In a time where many families struggle to afford groceries, I will work tirelessly to pressure local officials to lower sales taxes. Responsible allocation of taxes will lead to more in the pockets of ordinary residents.”
