Both of the candidates running in the May 21, 2024, Republican primary election for Georgia State Senate District 32 — Incumbent Kay Kirkpatrick (R) and Ben Paul Fremer (R) — completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.
Here are the candidates’ responses to the question: What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Kirkpatrick:
- “Safety comes first for our citizens and communities. I support our law enforcement, first responders and military and want to be sure they have the tools they need to protect us. Our veteran community has a big role to play in our state and we should continue to prioritize their needs. I want our local law enforcement and prosecutors to follow the law, especially regarding the influx of fentanyl brought illegally across our borders. I am opposed to anti-police efforts, and I proudly back the blue.
- Our healthcare and insurance systems are complex and difficult to navigate for consumers. I work daily to increase transparency and make sure that insurance companies are not getting in the way of appropriate medical care and that they follow guidelines that protect patients.
- Our government is overly broad and gets in the way of the private sector, both businesses and individuals. We need to streamline our government and support accountability and transparency. Individual responsibility is important and government overreach stands in the way.”
Fremer:
- “Corporations-funded Kay Kirkpatrick sided with the democrats on abortion (opposed the heartbeat bill), immigration, gun control (opposed campus carry) and is often the one or few ‘Republicans’ giving power to the Democrat side on major issues, as pro-life and pro-freedom gains in Georgia are at risk. … We can and should have a strong Republican with a strong prosperity plan representing us — not a quasi-democrat with purple yard signs in deep red Cherokee county.
- I have a great prosperity & tax cuts plan designed to return about $100,000 in savings to each taxpayer on average over their lifetime by implementing a powerful state e-Verify system to deter illegal immigration and by moving highly-taxpayer-subsidized expensive university courses to be online recorded lectures where people can conveniently get ~no cost degrees. This is a huge convenience to the student and a huge savings to the taxpayers.
- I am a political realist, but I am not going to be a flip-flopper, and I am willing to politically fight hard for what is right, and to take this Republican 2.0 platform to the national level. I have a prosperity plan that advances both democrats and republicans together, in an inspiring platform that can win this election and future elections for the party. I am here to save as many lives as I can and do the most good I can with my life, to the glory of Jesus Christ.”
