All candidates for North Carolina House of Representatives District 83 complete Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey

Both of the candidates running in the Nov. 5, 2024, general election for North Carolina House of Representatives District 83 — Grant Campbell (R) and Joanne Chesley (D) — completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.

Here are the candidates’ responses to the question: What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Campbell:

  • “I stand for limited government that must be a better steward of the tax dollars that they receive from hard-working North Carolinians.
  • I believe that rural communities in NC need to have the same educational and healthcare opportunities as metropolitan areas.
  • I believe the greatest economic stimulus as governing body can do for the people is decide to take less of their hard-earned money in the first place.”

Chesley:

  • “… NC, a state ranked less than the 15th percentile recently for per pupil expenditure and teacher salary, has chosen to divert $500 million dollars per year from public school funds to private schools. We cannot afford this! … the state has the responsibility to fund our schools legitimately. When we go back to doing so, we will see fewer Low Performing Schools.
  • Women MUST have the right to Reproductive Freedom! … A woman knows her reason for her decision; be it medical, financial or trauma-related. …
  • Our economy must be better stabilized to the point where families can afford essentials for quality living. Housing should not claim more than 30% of their paycheck, gasoline prices must better regulated and sustained at a reasonable price. Food prices must come down and ‘shrinkflation’ must stop. …”
