For 2024, 140 statewide ballot measures have been certified for the ballot in 39 states, two fewer measures than the average (142) for this point in the election cycle from 2012 to 2022. The average number of statewide ballot measures certified for an even-numbered year during this period was 157. In 2022, 140 measures were certified for state ballots.
Here’s an update on the ballot measure activity during the past two weeks.
Six ballot measures were certified in five states—Arkansas, Colorado, North Dakota, Oregon, and Washington:
- Arkansas Voter Approval for New Casino Licenses and Repeal Casino Licenses in Pope County Initiative
- Colorado Prohibit Hunting of Mountain Lion, Bobcat, and Lynx Initiative
- North Dakota Prohibit Property Taxes Initiative
- Oregon Measure 118, Corporate Tax Revenue Rebate for Residents Initiative
- Oregon Measure 119, Unionization of Cannabis Workers Initiative
- Washington Initiative 2066, Natural Gas Access Initiative
A ballot initiative was also certified in Washington, D.C.: Initiative 83, Ranked-Choice Voting Measure.
Signatures have been submitted and are pending verification for 26 initiatives in eight states: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Oklahoma.
