Election preparation and results – we’ve got you today and all week
Election Day is here! We’ll be back Wednesday morning with election results and analysis. In the meantime, if you’re heading to the polls today, use our Sample Ballot Lookup tool to learn about the candidates and issues on your ballot.
Ballotpedia’s sample ballot allows you to click through to our articles on each candidate and ballot measure, preparing you with the information you need to cast an informed vote. You can read encyclopedic articles, explore responses to our Candidate Connection survey, and much more.
Ballotpedia’s sample ballot tool is uniquely powered using digital maps. We pinpoint your address and identify corresponding districts. Our tool then checks to see which elections are happening in those districts and pulls information from our database on all the candidates running in those elections, plus all the measures on the ballot in your state.
How it works:
- Enter your address. Enter your email if you would like to receive Ballotpedia’s election news updates in your inbox (this is optional). You can unsubscribe at any time, and we will never share your information.
- View the list of candidates that will be on your ballot. Ballotpedia includes comprehensive election information for the largest 100 cities by population, as well as all state legislative, statewide, and congressional races across the nation. Our coverage of local elections continues to grow, and you can use this tool to see what local elections we are covering in your area. You can also contact your state or local election administrator for an official sample ballot.
- Click on your candidates to read their biography, view past election results, read their campaign themes and responses to our candidate survey, and more. We also provide race overviews if you want additional background information.
- Ballotpedia’s sample ballot tool also includes the polling hours for your state and a link to get information about your polling place. See the map below for poll closing times by state.
- Our sample ballot lookup tool is totally free to use, and you don’t need an account. We do not store any personal information from your search.
Have other questions? Are you curious why states have different election rules or whether you can take a ballot selfie? Are you wondering when states can begin counting absentee/mail-in ballots and what rules govern recounts? Maybe you’re curious about what would happen if there was a tie in the Electoral College. Our 2024 Election Help Desk answers your most pressing questions about today’s elections—and what happens next.
Speaking of what happens next – once the polls close…

The election results that state and local election agencies present on election night are unofficial, partial results. After election night, results are finalized during what is called the canvassing and certification of the vote. In 2024:
- Four states have state certification dates within one week of the election.
- Twenty-two states have state certification dates between November 13 and November 30.
- Twenty states have state certification dates in December.
- Four states do not have state certification dates specified in statute.

We’ll see you bright and early Wednesday morning with analysis and takeaways from today’s elections!
