The Senate Foreign Relations Committee held a confirmation hearing for Marco Rubio for secretary of state on Jan. 15, 2025. At the time the hearing ended, the committee had scheduled a business meeting to consider Rubio’s nomination for January 20, 2025. Rubio must receive a majority approval vote in the committee before his nomination can be put up for a confirmation vote with the full Senate.
Trump nominated Rubio on Nov. 13, 2024. Trump said of Rubio’s nomination, “Marco is a Highly Respected Leader, and a very powerful Voice for Freedom. He will be a strong Advocate for our Nation, a true friend to our Allies, and a fearless Warrior who will never back down to our adversaries.”
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee is chaired by Sen. James Risch (R-Idaho) and Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) is the ranking Democratic member. To watch the full hearing, click here.
