All candidates for city council in Mount Vernon, Wash., complete Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey

All candidates running in the at-large primary for Mount Vernon City Council—Demi Daman, Stefanie LeJeunesse, and Consuelo Pineda—completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.

All survey respondents are asked to tell voters what characteristics or qualities they believe are most important for an elected official. Excerpts from candidate surveys are shown below.

Daman:

“I believe that elected officials hold a position of public trust, and with that comes a deep responsibility to serve with integrity, transparency, and accountability. These core values form the foundation of effective and ethical leadership.”

LeJeunesse:

“Elected officials are not meant to show up with an answer for everything; in fact, I think it’s dangerous when they do. They are a liaison for the people to the government; they are simply people who have the wherewithal and time to commit to learning and sharing what they’ve learned.”

Pineda:

“Being humble and helping people in any way that one can, but also having: respect, understanding, compassion, empathy, emotional intelligence, an education, and not thinking that anyone is above anybody else because of a title.”
