All candidates for city council in Renton, Wash., complete Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey

All candidates running in the primary for Renton City Council Position 2—Mary Clymer, Raman Mann, and Carmen Rivera—completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.

All survey respondents are asked to tell voters about their three key campaign messages. In Renton, all three candidates listed local public safety as one of their key points. Excerpts are shown below.

Clymer:

“Safety is the foundation of a thriving community. I’m committed to investing in both prevention and response, like community policing, expanded mental health services, and youth engagement, so every resident feels safe and supported where they live, work, and play.”

Mann:

“Raman Mann, a local business owner and City Council candidate, runs to enhance safety by tackling poverty, housing, and mental health. He proposes hiring more officers to boost visibility, alongside better lighting and Business Watch, ensuring safe spaces while connecting vulnerable residents to services for a thriving Renton.”

Rivera:

“I champion collaborative public safety that prioritizes de-escalation, accountability, and care. I’ve supported funding for co-responder programs that pair officers with behavioral health and case management professionals, and I’ve advocated for expanding behavioral health resources citywide.”
