Bryan Calvo defeated Jesús Tundidor, incumbent Jackie Garcia-Roves, and two other candidates in the primary election for mayor of Hialeah, Florida, on Nov. 4. A general election was scheduled for Dec. 9, but was canceled after Calvo received a majority of the vote, winning the election outright. At the age of 27, Calvo was the youngest person to be elected mayor of Hialeah. When he is sworn in on Jan. 12, 2026, he will also be the third person to serve as Hialeah mayor in less than a year.
According to WLRN's Joshua Ceballos, "Calvo’s victory marks a change of guard, as his two frontrunner opponents were closely tied with the previous Mayor, whom Calvo often sparred with during his time on the city council."
Calvo was a former member of the Hialeah City Council. His other career experience included being an attorney. Calvo also interned at the White House during Donald Trump's (R) first presidency. Calvo completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey. In his response, he wrote, "I’m committed to lowering taxes, eliminating wasteful spending, fixing our broken public transportation system, and creating task forces to crack down on condominium corruption and money laundering tied to foreign interests."
Tundidor was a member of the Hialeah City Council. His career experience included working in healthcare and being on the Senior Management Team for a Florida Medicaid Managed Care Plan. Tundidor's campaign website said his priorities included reducing government waste, public safety, and fiscal responsibility. In a video posted on his campaign website, Tundidor said, "As your conservative voice on the city council I have always opposed tax and fee increases and now residents need additional property tax cuts. I have kept my promises before and I will do it again."
Garcia-Roves was the interim mayor. She assumed office on April 29, 2025, following the resignation of her predecessor, Esteban Bovo Jr. Before she became mayor, Garcia-Roves was Hialeah's City Council president. She was first elected to the City Council in 2019. Her campaign website said, "I’m committed to a municipal government that delivers on quality services, does not raise taxes and governs with utmost transparency and integrity. That’s why I’m now running to continue serving as your Mayor."
Marc Anthony Salvat and Benny Rodriguez also ran.
Hialeah City Council races are still being held on Dec. 9, 2025. The filing deadline for this election was July 28, 2025. As of 2025, Hialeah has term limits for the position of mayor. Mayors can serve two consecutive four-year terms and can run again after a four-year break.
