Both candidates running for an at-large seat on the Orange County, N.C., Board of Commissioners—Adam Beeman and Karen Stegman—completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.
All survey respondents are asked to tell voters about their three key campaign messages. In Orange County, both candidates listed housing and affordability as key points. Excerpts are shown below.
Beeman:
“Affordability in Orange County starts with smart infrastructure investment. Expanding wastewater capacity is essential—without it, we limit where housing can be built and drive costs even higher. By wisely expanding existing services and allowing greater density, we can slow the rise in housing prices.”
Stegman:
“My priorities include creating more access to housing, protecting our farmland and natural resources, investing in quality public schools, updating our economic development strategy, fixing our property tax valuation approach, and providing a robust social safety net that is available whenever & wherever it is needed.”
