Jon Echols (R) and Jeff Starling (R) are running in the Republican primary for Oklahoma Attorney General on June 16, 2026. Incumbent Gentner Drummond (R), first elected in 2022, is running for governor.

The last election for Oklahoma Attorney General without an incumbent on the ballot was in 2010. The Southwest Ledger's M. Scott Carter said, "For decades, Oklahoma’s political history has shown that in statewide races the contest for governor draws the most attention. And, more often than not, second place almost always goes to the attorney general’s campaign. ... This race — much like the contest for governor — is expected to be loud and intense."

Echols served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 2012 to 2024. Echols is a business owner and the co-founder of Shelter Oklahoma Schools, a nonprofit funding storm shelter installation in schools. Echols' campaign website says he is a "serial entrepreneur— starting his first business in college. Jon understands what it takes to run a business and create jobs in our economy." As of May 2026, three state senators, 22 state representatives, and 59 county sheriffs had endorsed Echols.

Starling is an attorney. Governor Kevin Stitt (R) appointed Starling as Oklahoma's secretary of energy in 2024. Starling's campaign website says he "isn’t a career politician and has never run for office before. With over 20 years of experience as an attorney, businessman, and public servant, Jeff brings real-world leadership to the fight for Oklahoma’s future." Starling said he would not accept endorsements from elected officials: "[W]hen an Attorney General accepts endorsements from elected officials, it creates a conflict of interest."

In 2022, Drummond defeated Lynda Steele (L) 73.8%–26.2%. No Democrat has won a statewide election in Oklahoma since 2006. Democrats won eight of the nine statewide elections in Oklahoma in 2006.
