Incumbent Max Miller (R), Brian Poindexter (D), Thahbia Asad (Independent) (Write-in), and Andrey Martinichin (Independent) (Write-in) are running in the general election for Ohio's 7th Congressional District on November 3, 2026.
The election is taking place in the context of redistricting, which changed the district's boundaries from those used in 2024. The Downballot calculated that President Donald Trump (R) defeated Kamala Harris (D) 55.1%–44.1% in the 2024 presidential election within the 2026 version of the 7th District.
In July 2026, Miller's ex-wife Emily Moreno accused him of spousal and child abuse. As of August 2026, major election forecasters rated the general election Toss-up. Before Moreno accused Miller of misconduct, forecasters rated the election Likely Republican or Leans Republican.
Miller was elected in 2022. He is a U.S. Marine Corps Reserve veteran and worked for President Donald Trump (R) during the 2016 campaign and Trump's first term. Miller's campaign website says he has "a record of fighting against radical Democrat policies, holding Washington accountable, and being a voice for northeast Ohio. He’s steadfast in his push to secure the southern border, expand workforce development opportunities, and empower Ohio and America’s farmers and rural communities."
Poindexter is a union organizer and ironworker. He was elected to the Brook Park City Council in 2017. Poindexter's campaign website says, "When times get tough, working people are always asked to do more with less. ... I’m running for Congress because working people deserve real representation — not empty promises, not talking points, and not leaders who only remember us when it’s time to sacrifice."
As of June 30, 2026, Miller had raised $2.14 million and Poindexter had raised $603,000.
The outcome of this race will affect the partisan balance of the U.S. House of Representatives in the 120th Congress. All 435 U.S. House districts are up for election.
Currently, Republicans have a 219-212 majority with four vacancies in the U.S. House.
