Five U.S. House elections this year feature two incumbents running in the same district
All five districts are in states that have enacted new congressional district boundaries after the 2020 census, and all feature two candidates from the same party running against each other in the primary. Three of these districts have two Democratic incumbents running against one another and the remaining two have two Republicans.

On Jan. 30, the New York State Legislative Task Force on Demographic Research and Reapportionment—which Democrats control—released proposed congressional and legislative redistricting plans. In Ohio, the Ohio Supreme Court was expected to rule this week on whether to accept the Ohio Redistricting Commission’s revised legislative maps.
Democratic and Republican party committees raised a combined $792 million in 2021
The six major party national committees raised a combined $792 million in 2021, less than they raised in 2020’s presidential election year but more than they raised in 2018 and 2019. December was the ninth consecutive month in which the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) outraised the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC).
The two states with separate filing deadlines for congressional candidates
Alabama’s filing deadline for all 2022 statewide primary candidates was originally scheduled for Jan. 28. However, on Jan. 24, a federal court unanimously struck down the state’s recently enacted congressional district map and postponed the congressional filing deadline to Feb. 11. Alabama joined Ohio as the two states with two separate filing deadlines.
