Ballotpedia tracked one new state-level candidate in Iowa between Nov. 20-26. This was one more candidate than the prior week.
The candidate is a Democrat and is running for state legislature in 2024.
Details on the candidate are below:
- Nannette Griffin (D) is running for Iowa State Senate District 50. Griffin said, “My name is Nannette Griffin, and I am a small business owner in Fort Madison. I am running for State Senate to bring opportunity back to Southeast Iowa. I’m going to do that by: Helping entrepreneurs open or expand small businesses to revitalize Southeast Iowa. Increasing apprenticeship programs in our schools so kids can learn the trades because not everyone needs a four-year degree to succeed. Empowering Iowans who want to join a union and expand the middle class. I’ve spent my life working to empower others so that everyone has an opportunity to achieve the American dream. I want to continue that work in the Iowa Senate and look forward to working for Southeast Iowans in Des Moines as their next State Senator.”
Since the beginning of the year, Ballotpedia has identified three candidates for state-level office in Iowa. Three hundred and twenty-one candidates ran for state-level office in Iowa in 2022, while 271 ran in 2020. In 2022, 135 were Democratic, while 159 were Republican. In 2020, 128 were Democratic and 125 were Republican. Nationally, Ballotpedia has tracked 679 Democrats and 828 Republicans running for state-level office in 2023, and 368 Democrats and 503 Republicans running in 2024.
