Both of the candidates running in the March 5, 2024, Democratic primary for North Carolina Commissioner of Insurance — Natasha Marcus (D) and David Wheeler (D) — completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. Here are the candidates’ responses to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Marcus:
“My mission has always been to stand up for the people against corruption, corporate greed, and bad government. … As a litigation attorney, I learned how to advocate for my clients to ensure their fair treatment under the law. During my time in the Senate, I’ve been an outspoken advocate for North Carolinians, who deserve affordable healthcare, common sense gun safety reform, reproductive freedom, clean energy, fair elections, voting rights, public education investments, equity, and tax policies that are fair for working families.”
Wheeler:
“I don’t understand why there is no one fighting to keep insurance rates low or fighting for folks that have problems obtaining the benefits owed to them by insurance companies. I am passionate about leveling the playing field for all North Carolinians and making the Dept of Insurance more focused on the people and less so on helping insurance companies make millions of dollars.”
