Donald Trump (R) announced on Nov. 22, 2024, that he had selected Scott Turner as his nominee for secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This position requires Senate confirmation. In a statement, Trump said, “Scott is an NFL Veteran, who, during my First Term, served as the First Executive Director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council (WHORC), helping to lead an Unprecedented Effort that Transformed our Country’s most distressed communities.”
Scott works as chief visionary officer at JPI, a “national developer, builder, and investment manager of Class A, attainable and affordable multifamily assets.” From 2019 to 2021, Scott chaired the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council in the Trump administration. Scott formerly served in the Texas State House of Representatives from 2013 to 2017. His professional experience also includes working as chief inspiration officer at Systemware, and playing in the National Football League.
Turner was Trump’s 20th announced Cabinet nominee. Trump made the announcement 17 days after election day, the fastest announcement for a HUD secretary nominee across the last four presidential transitions. In 2016, Trump announced his pick for the position 27 days after election day. President Joe Biden (D) announced his HUD secretary pick 37 days after the 2020 election, and former President Barack Obama (D) announced his HUD secretary pick 39 days after election day.
As of Nov. 24, 2024, 19 days after election day, Trump has announced 21 Cabinet-level nominees so far. At this point after election day, Biden had announced one Cabinet-level position in 2020, Trump had announced five in 2016, and Obama had announced one in 2008.
