Ballotpedia has covered at least one election every week through the first half of 2025

Between Jan. 1 and June 30—the first 26 weeks of the year—Ballotpedia has covered 23,454 elections on 47 unique election dates.

Political observers often point out that every year is an election year, emphasizing that many important elections take place in odd-numbered years, which tend to garner less attention and coverage.

But that observation could be taken one step further: almost every week is an election week somewhere in the country.

At least one election has been held on all 25 Tuesdays of the first half of 2025, the most commonly used election date by most political entities.

During that time, Ballotpedia has covered elections on 14 Saturdays, most of which were local elections in Delaware, but also major statewide general elections in Texas and runoffs related to those elections.

Elections on other days of the week are rarer. Ballotpedia has covered elections on three Mondays, two Thursdays, two Fridays, and one Wednesday. Ballotpedia has not covered any elections on a Sunday.

For this analysis, a week is considered to start on a Wednesday and end on a Tuesday.

The consistency of elections across the country in 2025 mirrors the calendar in 2024.

In 2024, there were only two weeks where Ballotpedia covered no elections: those ending Oct. 15 and Dec. 24.

Through the end of June 2024, Ballotpedia had covered elections on 46 unique election dates, almost equal to the 47 covered during that same period in 2025.

Elections for local offices make up the majority of election dates Ballotpedia covers in a given year.

By the end of June, 74% (24) of election dates 2024 included at least one local office, and 41% (19) only featured local offices.

In 2025, 96% (45) of election dates included at least one local office, and 51% (24) only featured local offices.

The shift from 2024 to 2025 can be attributed to the fact that far more state and congressional elections take place in even-numbered years compared to odd-numbered years.

Looking ahead in 2025, at least one election is scheduled every week until the week ending Sept. 30, though that may change in the event of a special election within Ballotpedia’s coverage scope.

This analysis is limited to elections Ballotpedia covered, meaning it excludes elections that were scheduled but canceled due to an insufficient number of candidates. Ballotpedia’s coverage scope includes all congressional and state-level offices, as well as the country’s largest cities and school districts. It also includes comprehensive local election coverage in 26 states.
