These are the five most expensive Florida State House primary races


Elections for 79 of 120 seats in the Florida House of Representatives will take place on Nov. 8, 2022. State house primary elections are held on Aug. 23, 2022. Republicans hold a 76-42 majority heading into the election.

This article details the five most and least expensive contested primary elections in the House of Representatives. In the 2022 election cycle, 39 of 67 Republican primaries and 27 of 56 Democratic primaries are contested.

This information comes from candidate reports to the Florida Department of State covering the period of Jan. 1, 2021, through July 29, 2022.

Five primary elections with the most fundraising

#1 District 5 – $441,399

Shane Abbott (R) raised $358,721, Vance Coley (R) raised $82,678, and Clint Pate (R) raised $0.

#2 District 99 – $432,925

Hillary Cassel (D) raised $429,925, Barry Faske (D) raised $3,000, and Jeremy Katzman (D) raised $0.

#3 District 38 – $420,294

Incumbent David Smith (R) raised $420,294, Drake Wuertz (R) raised $0, and Patrick Weingart (R) raised $0.

#4 District 33 – $414,499

Incumbent Randy Fine (R) raised $414,499 and incumbent Brett Hage (R) raised $0.

#5 District 6 – $385,128

Philip Griffitts (R) raised $305,065, Brian Clowdus (R) raised $80,063, and Grey Dodge (R) raised $0.
