Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey: Indiana roundup


Indiana is holding elections, including for municipal offices, on May 2, 2023. A number of candidates running in these elections completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.

Below is a selection of responses from the candidates who filled out the survey as of April 9. To read each candidate’s full responses, click their name at the bottom of the article.

Kim Boyd (D) is running for Indianapolis City Council District 5 and the primary election is on May 2. Here’s how Boyd responded to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

“Housing, Crime, Public safety, and access to opportunities to support efforts by qualifying, results PROVEN efforts and organizations.”

Matthew Impink (D) is running for Indianapolis City Council District 18 and the primary election is on May 2. Here’s how Impink responded to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

“Affordable Housing, K-12 education, Postsecondary education, Pedestrian/ Bicycle Safety, Inclusive Economic Growth, Civil Rights.”

Nick Roberts (D) is running for Indianapolis City Council District 4 and the primary election is on May 2. Here’s how Roberts responded to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

“There are countless issues I care about, but two specifically that I really care about are veterans and mental health. …One quarter of our homeless population in Marion County are vets, and that is unacceptable. So I will work with groups that work with vets to ensure they are supported more in our city.”

Jefferson Shreve (R) is running for mayor of Indianapolis and the primary election is on May 2. Here’s how Shreve responded to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

“Economic development efforts centered on place-making — all toward creating an urban core that will increasingly attract talented young people who will wish to move into Indy, to develop their careers and to make their homes in our great city.”
