Durham, North Carolina, to hold primary on Oct. 10


The nonpartisan primary for Durham, North Carolina, is on Oct. 10, 2023. Candidates are competing to advance to the nonpartisan general scheduled for Nov. 7. The filing deadline to run was on July 21.

Candidates filed for Durham City Council At-large and mayor of Durham. There are three seats up for election on the city council. The following candidates are running: Incumbent Javiera Caballero, Incumbent Monique Holsey-Hyman, Nate Baker, Shanetta Burris, J.J. Campbell, Waldo Fenner, Bonita Green, Shelia Ann Huggins, Khalilah Karim, Carl Rist, Sherri Zann Rosenthal, and Renee Vaughan.

The following candidates are running for mayor: Charlitta Burruss, Jontae Dunston, DeDreana Freeman, Nick Pettiford, Marshall Williams, Jr., Leonardo Williams, Sylvester Williams, and Mike Woodard.

Durham is the fourth-largest city in North Carolina and the 74th-largest city in the U.S. by population.
