Two candidates filed to appear on Tennessee’s Democratic presidential primary ballot

The filing deadline for Tennessee’s Democratic presidential primary passed on Dec. 5, 2023. President Joe Biden qualified outright for the March 5, 2024, ballot, since the Tennessee Democratic Party submitted his name to the secretary of state. Dean Phillips sought ballot access for the Democratic primary by submitting a petition containing 2,500 signatures. A Tennessee county election commissioner will review his petition and confirm or reject it.

Biden, Phillips, and Marianne Williamson have filed to participate in five or more nominating contests. See the chart below for an overview of the number of candidates who have filed in each Democratic presidential primary contest.

The next Democratic presidential primary filing deadline will take place on Dec. 6, 2023, in Oklahoma.
