All candidates for Texas Railroad Commission Democratic primary complete Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey

Both of the candidates running in the March 5, 2024, Democratic primary for Texas Railroad Commission — Bill Burch (D) and Katherine Culbert (D) — completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.

Here are the candidates’ responses to the question: What qualities does this office possess that makes it a unique and important part of the state government and legal system?

Burch:

“This office is the most under appreciated, and yet powerful office in the State of Texas. This office regulates an industry that provides a significant portion of the State GDP. Whole towns and counties are dependent on the royalties, jobs, and supplementary services provided by the Energy industry.”

Culbert:

“The Texas Railroad Commission is arguably the most powerful agency in Texas. The oil and gas industry is the major economic driver for the Texas economy and regulating it is important for protecting natural resources, the environment, and the people of Texas.”
