Tennessee’s Nov. 5, 2024, general election ballot will feature seven presidential candidates and their running mates. They are:
- Kamala Harris / Tim Walz (D)
- Donald Trump / J.D. Vance (R)
- Jay Bowman / De Bowman (Independent)
- Claudia De La Cruz / Karina Garcia (Independent)
- Rachele Fruit / Dennis Richter (Independent)
- Robert F. Kennedy Jr. / Nicole Shanahan (Independent)
- Jill Stein / Samson LeBeau Kpadenou (Independent)
Claudia De La Cruz is the Party for Socialism and Liberation’s presidential nominee, Rachele Fruit is the Socialist Workers Party’s presidential nominee, and Jill Stein is the Green Party’s presidential nominee, but all three will appear on Tennessee’s ballot as independents. Stein’s running mate is Butch Ware, but she filed to appear on Tennessee’s ballot before selecting Ware, so she will appear on Tennessee’s ballot with Kpadenou instead. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. withdrew from the presidential election in August, but will still appear on Tennessee’s ballot.
There are two fewer candidates on Tennessee’s presidential ballot compared to 2020. In 2020, Tennessee’s ballot had nine candidates: Joe Biden (D), Trump, Jo Jorgensen (Independent), Ye (Independent), and five other minor party candidates. Trump won Tennessee that year with 60.7% of the vote, followed by Biden with 37.5%, Jorgensen with 1.0%, and Ye with 0.3%. No other candidate received more than 0.2% of the vote.
As of Oct. 27, The Cook Political Report, Inside Elections, and Sabato’s Crystal Ball all rated the state as solid Republican. Tennessee was carried by the Republican presidential nominee in every election between 2000 and 2020; the last Democrat to carry the state was in 1996.
Tennessee has 11 electoral votes, tied with Arizona, Indiana, and Massachusetts for the state with the 14th most electoral votes. Tennessee neither gained nor lost electoral votes following the 2020 census.
Tennessee’s general election ballot will also feature elections for the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, the Tennessee State Senate, and the Tennessee House of Representatives, among others.
