Vermont’s Nov. 5, 2024, general election ballot will feature seven presidential candidates and their running mates. They are:
- Kamala Harris / Tim Walz (D)
- Donald Trump / J.D. Vance (R)
- Cornel West / Melina Abdullah (Green Mountain Peace and Justice Party)
- Chase Oliver / Mike ter Maat (L)
- Claudia De La Cruz / Karina Garcia (Party for Socialism and Liberation)
- Rachele Fruit / Dennis Richter (Socialist Workers Party)
- Robert F. Kennedy Jr. / Nicole Shanahan (We the People)
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., running as an independent, withdrew from the presidential election in August, but will still appear on Vermont’s ballot as the We the People party’s presidential nominee.
There are 14 fewer candidates on Vermont’s presidential ballot compared to 2020. In 2020, Vermont’s ballot had 21 candidates: Joe Biden (D), Trump, Jo Jorgensen (L), Howie Hawkins (G), and 17 other minor party candidates. Biden won Vermont that year with 65.5% of the vote, followed by Trump with 30.4%, Jorgensen with 1.0%, and Hawkins with 0.4%. No other candidate received more than 0.3% of the vote.
As of Oct. 27, The Cook Political Report, Inside Elections, and Sabato’s Crystal Ball all rated the state as solid Democratic. Vermont was carried by the Democratic presidential candidate in every election between 1992 and 2020; the last Republican to carry the state was in 1988.
Vermont has three electoral votes, tied with five other states and Washington, D.C., for the fewest electoral votes. Vermont neither gained nor lost electoral votes following the 2020 census.
