All three of the candidates running in the November 8, 2022, general election for Texas House of Representatives District 136 — incumbent John Bucy III (D), Michelle Evans (R), and Burton Culley (L) — completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. Eighty-eight of the country’s 99 state legislative chambers will hold regularly scheduled elections in 2022. The Republican Party controls both chambers of Texas’s state legislature. Texas is one of 23 states with a Republican trifecta.
Here are excerpts from candidates’ responses to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Bucy:
“Some specific legislative priorities include but are not limited to: increasing Texas’ share of public school funding to at least 50 percent, reforming the BIP process to ensure students are getting the SPED services they need, passing Medicaid expansion, improving funding and access to mental health services…”
Evans:
“I am most passionate about the protection of personal liberties from government overreach and the defense of parental rights. I am also concerned about sex trafficking throughout our state.”
Culley:
“Fiscal reasonableness, ending failed/costly policies such as the ‘Drug War’, revamping the immigration process, strengthening the energy sector, reducing government regulations.”
