All candidates for North Carolina House of Representatives District 72 Democratic primary complete Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey

Both of the candidates running in the March 5, 2024, Democratic primary for North Carolina House of Representatives District 72 — Incumbent Amber Baker (D) and Marcus D. Pearson (D) — completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.

Here are the candidates’ responses to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Baker:

“Taxes on corporations and businesses are necessary to keep the state reserves strong. If majority party continues to fight to take the corporate tax rate to zero, our state will not be able to continue to fund itself. Personal income tax will not generate enough revenue to keep the reserves strong. Under Governor Hunt, the state was the strongest not because the tax rate was zero but because we had strong schools … Corporations that do business in the state should pay their share ensuring that we have a strong economy, well-funded schools and access to universal Pre-K, which will contribute to economic success.”

Pearson:

  1. “Education
  2. Healthcare
  3. State taxes”
