Candidates in Oregon’s 5th compete in their third election against one another

Incumbent Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R) and Janelle Bynum (D) are running for U.S. Congress in Oregon’s 5th District on Nov. 5. This election is the third election between Chavez-DeRemer and Bynum.

Bynum defeated Chavez-DeRemer twice to represent District 51 in the Oregon House of Representatives. In 2016, Bynum defeated Chavez-DeRemer 51.0% to 49.0%. In 2018, Bynum defeated Chavez-DeRemer 53.9% to 45.8%.

Florida Amendment 3 ranks as the most expensive recreational marijuana legalization measure since 2010

There is a new record-holder for the most expensive marijuana legalization ballot measure: Florida Amendment 3. The most expensive marijuana legalization ballot measure before 2024 was California’s Proposition 64, which voters approved in 2016. 

With supporters and opponents raising a combined $105.1 million, Amendment 3 has surpassed California Proposition 64 by $77.9 million—with seven weeks remaining until the election on Nov. 5.

Our data tell us that state legislative competitiveness in 2024 was below average for even years from 2010 to 2024. In 2024, the State Legislative Competitiveness Index index stands at 33.3, down from the last three election cycles: 2022 (36.6), 2020 (33.4), and 2018 (36.1)
