Montana’s Nov. 5, 2024, general election ballot will feature five presidential candidates and their running mates. They are:

• Kamala Harris / Tim Walz (D)
• Donald Trump / J.D. Vance (R)
• Jill Stein / Butch Ware (G)
• Chase Oliver / Mike ter Maat (L)
• Robert F. Kennedy Jr. / Nicole Shanahan (Independent)

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. withdrew from the presidential election in August, but will still appear on Montana’s ballot.

This is the same number of candidates on Montana’s presidential ballot as in three of the last five elections. In 2020, Montana’s ballot had three candidates: Joe Biden (D), Trump, and Jo Jorgensen (L). Trump won Montana that year with 56.9% of the vote, followed by Biden with 40.5%, and Jorgensen with 2.5%.

As of Oct. 25, The Cook Political Report, Inside Elections, and Sabato’s Crystal Ball all rated the state as solid Republican. Montana was carried by the Republican presidential candidate in every election between 1996 and 2020; the last Democrat to carry the state was in 1992.

Montana has four electoral votes, tied with six other states for the 2nd fewest electoral votes. Montana gained one electoral vote following the 2020 census.
