Nine candidates filed to appear on Tennessee’s Republican presidential primary ballot


The filing deadline for the Tennessee Republican presidential primary passed on Dec. 5, 2023. Nine candidates qualified to appear on the March 5, 2024, ballot. In order to qualify, candidates had to either be included on a list of names submitted to the secretary of state by the Tennessee Republican Party or submit a petition containing 2,500 signatures. 

The following candidates qualified:

  • Ryan Binkley
  • North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum
  • Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie
  • Florida Governor Ron DeSantis
  • Former U.N. Ambassador and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley
  • Asa Hutchinson
  • Vivek Ramaswamy 
  • David Stuckenberg
  • Former President Donald Trump

Binkley, Burgum, Christie, DeSantis, Haley, Hutchinson, Ramaswamy, Stuckenberg, and Trump have all filed to participate in five or more nominating contests. See the chart below for an overview of the number of candidates who have filed in each Republican presidential primary contest.

The next Republican presidential primary filing deadline will take place on Dec. 6, 2023, in Oklahoma.
