Louisiana’s Nov. 5, 2024, general election ballot will feature eleven presidential candidates and their running mates. They are:
- Kamala Harris / Tim Walz (D)
- Donald Trump / J.D. Vance (R)
- Peter Sonski / Lauren Onak (American Solidarity Party)
- Randall Terry / Stephen E. Broden (Constitution Party)
- Jill Stein / Ajamu Baraka (G)
- Mattie Preston / Shannel Conner (Godliness, Truth, Justice)
- Cornel West / Melina Abdullah (Justice for All)
- Chase Oliver / Mike ter Maat (L)
- Claudia De La Cruz / Karina Garcia (Party for Socialism and Liberation)
- Rachele Fruit / Dennis Richter (Socialist Workers Party)
- Robert F. Kennedy Jr. / Nicole Shanahan (We the People)
Jill Stein’s running mate is Butch Ware, but she filed to appear on Louisiana’s ballot before selecting Ware, so she will appear on Louisiana’s ballot with Baraka instead. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. withdrew from the presidential election in August, but will still appear on Louisiana’s ballot.
There are fewer candidates on Louisiana’s presidential ballot than in the 2020 and 2016 elections. In 2020, Louisiana’s ballot had 13 candidates: Donald Trump (R), Joe Biden (D), Jo Jorgensen (L), Ye (Birthday Party), and nine other minor party candidates. Trump won Louisiana that year with 58.5% of the vote, followed by Biden with 39.9%, Jorgensen with 1.0%, and Ye with 0.2%. No other candidate received more than 0.1% of the vote.
As of Oct. 22, The Cook Political Report, Inside Elections, and Sabato’s Crystal Ball all rated the state as solid Republican. In the last 11 presidential elections, the Republican candidate has won Louisiana nine times and the Democratic candidate has won the state two times.
Louisiana has eight electoral votes, tied with Kentucky and Oregon for the states with the 25th most electoral votes. Louisiana neither gained nor lost electoral votes following the 2020 census.
Louisiana’s general election ballot will also feature one ballot measure, and elections for the U.S. House of Representatives, other state executive offices, and the Louisiana State Supreme Court, among others.
