Rhode Island’s Nov. 5, 2024, general election ballot will feature seven presidential candidates and their running mates. They are:
- Kamala Harris / Tim Walz (D)
- Donald Trump / J.D. Vance (R)
- Jill Stein / Butch Ware (G)
- Chase Oliver / Mike ter Maat (L)
- Robert Wells Jr. / Tony Jones (Party Party)
- Claudia De La Cruz / Karina Garcia (Party for Socialism and Liberation)
- Robert F. Kennedy Jr. / Nicole Shanahan (Team Kennedy)
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., running as an independent, withdrew from the presidential election in August, but will still appear on Rhode Island’s ballot with the Team Kennedy ballot label.
This is the same number of candidates as appeared on Rhode Island’s presidential ballot in 2008 and more than the number of candidates in the three elections held between 2012 and 2020. In 2020, Rhode Island’s ballot had six candidates: Joe Biden (D), Trump, Jo Jorgensen (L), Roque De La Fuente (Alliance Party), and two other minor party candidates. Biden won Rhode Island that year with 59.4% of the vote, followed by Trump with 38.6%, Jorgensen with 1.0%, and De La Fuente with 0.2%.
As of Oct. 26, The Cook Political Report, Inside Elections, and Sabato’s Crystal Ball all rated the state as solid Democratic. Rhode Island was carried by the Democratic presidential nominee in every election between 1988 and 2020; the last Republican to carry the state was in 1984.
Rhode Island has four electoral votes, tied with six other states for the 2nd fewest electoral votes. Rhode Island neither gained nor lost electoral votes following the 2020 census.
Rhode Island’s general election ballot will also feature five ballot measures and elections for the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, and the Rhode Island State Senate, among others.
