Six presidential tickets will appear on the ballot in North Carolina this November


North Carolina’s Nov. 5, 2024, general election ballot will feature six presidential candidates and their running mates. They are:

This is the most candidates on North Carolina’s presidential ballot since at least 2008. In 2020, North Carolina’s ballot had five candidates: Joe Biden (D), Trump, Jo Jorgensen (L), Howie Hawkins (G), and one other minor party candidate. Trump won North Carolina that year with 49.9% of the vote, followed by Biden with 48.6%, Jorgensen with 0.9%, and Hawkins with 0.2%. No other candidate received more than 0.1% of the vote.

As of Oct. 26, The Cook Political Report, Inside Elections, and Sabato’s Crystal Ball all rated the state as a Toss-up. North Carolina backed the winning presidential candidate in each election between 2000 and 2016 except for 2012, when Republicans carried the state. In 2020, Republicans won the state but lost the election nationwide.

North Carolina has 16 electoral votes, tied with Georgia for the states with the 8th most electoral votes. North Carolina gained one electoral vote following the 2020 census.
