New York’s Nov. 5, 2024, general election ballot will feature two presidential candidates and their running mates. They are:
- Kamala Harris / Tim Walz (D/Working Families Party)
- Donald Trump / J.D. Vance (R/Conservative Party)
This is the fewest candidates on New York’s presidential ballot since at least 2008. In 2020, New York’s ballot had five candidates: Joe Biden (D), Trump, Jo Jorgensen (L), Howie Hawkins (G), and one other minor party candidate. Biden won New York that year with 60.9% of the vote, followed by Trump with 37.7%, Jorgensen with 0.7%, and Hawkins with 0.4%. No other candidate received more than 0.3% of the vote.
As of Oct. 26, The Cook Political Report, Inside Elections, and Sabato’s Crystal Ball all rated the state as solid Democratic. New York has been carried by Democratic candidates in recent election cycles. The last Republican to carry New York was in 1984.
New York has 28 electoral votes, the 4th most electoral votes of all 50 states and the District of Columbia. New York lost one electoral vote following the 2020 census.
New York’s general election ballot will also feature one ballot measure and elections for the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, and the New York State Senate, among others.
