Six presidential tickets will appear on the ballot in Virginia this November

Virginia’s Nov. 5, 2024, general election ballot will feature six presidential candidates and their running mates. They are:

Claudia De La Cruz is the Party for Socialism and Liberation’s presidential nominee, but will appear on Virginia’s ballot as an independent.

There are three more candidates on Virginia’s presidential ballot compared to 2020 and one more candidate on the 2020 ballot than in each of the three elections held between 2008 and 2016. In 2020, Virginia’s ballot had three candidates: Joe Biden (D), Trump, and Jo Jorgensen (L). Biden won Virginia that year with 54.1% of the vote, followed by Trump with 44%, and Jorgensen with 1.5%.

As of Oct. 27, The Cook Political Report, Inside Elections, and Sabato’s Crystal Ball all rated the state as likely Democratic. Virginia backed the Democratic presidential candidate in the four elections between 2008 and 2020 and the Republican candidate in the ten elections between 1968 and 2004.

Virginia has 13 electoral votes, the 12th most electoral votes of all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Virginia neither gained nor lost electoral votes following the 2020 census.

Virginia’s general election ballot will also feature one ballot measure and elections for the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, and multiple municipal government offices, among others.
