Five presidential tickets will appear on the ballot in Nebraska this November

Nebraska’s Nov. 5, 2024, general election ballot will feature five presidential candidates and their running mates. They are:

Jill Stein is the Green Party’s presidential nominee, but she will appear on Nebraska’s ballot as an independent. Stein’s running mate is Butch Ware, but she filed to appear on Nebraska’s ballot before selecting Ware, so she will appear on Nebraska’s ballot with Kpadenou instead.

Nebraska is one of two states, along with Maine, that does not allocate its electoral votes using a winner-take-all system. Instead, Nebraska awards two of its electors to the candidate who wins a plurality of the statewide vote, while the remaining electors are allocated to the winners of the plurality vote in each of Nebraska’s congressional districts.

There are two more candidates on Nebraska’s presidential ballot compared to 2020. In 2020, Nebraska’s ballot had three candidates: Donald Trump (R), Joe Biden (D), and Jo Jorgensen (L). Trump won Nebraska that year with 58.5% of the vote, followed by Biden with 39.4%, and Jorgensen with 2.1%.

Nebraska awards two electoral votes to the statewide winner and one electoral vote to the winner in each congressional district. As of Oct. 29, The Cook Political Report rated the state and the first and third districts as solid Republican and the second district as lean Democratic. Sabato’s Crystal Ball rated the state and the first and third districts as safe Republican and the second district as likely Democratic. Inside Elections rated the state and the first and third districts as solid Republican and Nebraska’s second district as lean Democratic. The Republican presidential candidate won the statewide vote in every election between 1968 and 2020; the last Democrat to carry the state was in 1964.

Nebraska has five electoral votes, tied with New Mexico for the states with the 3rd fewest electoral votes. Nebraska neither gained nor lost electoral votes following the 2020 census.

Nebraska’s general election ballot will also feature six ballot measures and elections for the U.S Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, and a special U.S. Senate election, among others.
