There are two more candidates on South Carolina’s presidential ballot compared to 2020. In 2020, South Carolina’s ballot had five candidates: Joe Biden (D), Trump, Jo Jorgensen (L), Howie Hawkins (G), and one other minor party candidate. Trump won South Carolina that year with 55.1% of the vote, followed by Biden with 43.4%, Jorgensen with 1.1%, and Hawkins with 0.3%. No other candidate received more than 0.1% of the vote.
As of Oct. 27, The Cook Political Report, Inside Elections, and Sabato’s Crystal Ball all rated the state as solid Republican. South Carolina was carried by the Republican presidential candidate in every election between 1980 and 2020; the last Democrat to carry the state was in 1976.
South Carolina has nine electoral votes, tied with Alabama for the states with the 23rd most electoral votes. South Carolina neither gained nor lost electoral votes following the 2020 census.
