West Virginia’s Nov. 5, 2024, general election ballot will feature five presidential candidates and their running mates. They are:
- Kamala Harris / Tim Walz (D)
- Donald Trump / J.D. Vance (R)
- Chase Oliver / Mike ter Maat (L)
- Jill Stein / Butch Ware (Mountain Party of West Virginia)
- Robert F. Kennedy Jr. / Nicole Shanahan (Independent)
The same number of candidates will appear on West Virginia’s presidential ballot as in four of the five presidential elections held since 2008. In 2020, West Virginia’s ballot had four candidates: Donald Trump (R), Joe Biden (D), Jo Jorgensen (L), and Howie Hawkins (Mountain Party of West Virginia). Trump won West Virginia that year with 68.6% of the vote, followed by Biden with 29.7%, Jorgensen with 1.3%, and Hawkins with 0.3%.
As of Oct. 28, The Cook Political Report, Inside Elections, and Sabato’s Crystal Ball all rated the state as solid Republican. West Virginia was carried by the Republican presidential candidate in the six elections between 2000 and 2020 and by the Democratic candidate in the three elections between 1988 and 1996.
West Virginia has four electoral votes, tied with six other states for the 2nd fewest electoral votes. West Virginia lost one electoral vote following the 2020 census.
